Stanford University Physician Assistant Program Community Satellites
Stanford University’s Physician Assistant Primary Care Associate program has what is known as Community Satellites. The purpose of this satellite program is to recruit prospective students from targeted Central California communities.
Bakersfield & Kern County are currently considered targeted communities. One of the focuses of the Community Satellite Program is to use the existing network of physician preceptors & local Kern County Physician Assistant coordinators so that prospective Kern County students will have access to the needed resources to complete the Stanford University Physician Assistant program, and be able to bring their professional expertise and education back to their local Central California communities.
Stanford’s Physician Assistant Program
Students who are accepted into Stanford’s Physician Assistant program will undergo an intensive 21 month full time program.
The objectives of this educational program have been based upon the competencies that are typically demanded of physician assistants, while still fulfilling the program mission of the Primary Care Associate program. A few of the areas this training addresses are:
- Preceptorships based in the students’ communities
- Competent Clinical Skills
- Maintaining Professionalism
- Fundamental knowledge of science and medicine through didactic coursework
- Effective understanding of multicultural medicine
