Kern County EMT Training At Cerro Coso Community College
Cerro Coso Community College is offering the Emergency Medical Technician certification program. This is a 7 unit course, and is designed to be completed in one semester. This Kern County EMT certification course is specifically designed as a Career Pathway program leading to immediate entry level employment in Emergency Medical Services. This pathway includes working in a pre-hospital setting, hospital setting as an ER Tech, and education of the constantly changing emergency medical car environment. The EMT program is often a starting point for those interested in working for a private ambulance company, Fire Department, in a hospital setting, or as a first step towards certification as a paramedic. Learning how to become an EMT includes Basic Body Systems such as Anatomy, Physiology, and pathophysiology are studied. Hours completed working as an Emergency Medical Technician count towards hours worked for most Physician Assistant Programs in California. Many EMT’s also advance their careers into Nursing, taking one of the nursing programs in Bakersfield Ca.
The EMT course must be completed with a “C” grade or better in order to be able to apply for the EMT certificate.
Cerro Coso Community College EMT Learning Outcomes
Once the Emergency Medical Technician certification program has been completed, the student will be able to competently:
- Properly show the ability to use proper resources to resolve the trauma and medical conditions of patients
- Demonstrate the ability to lead during critical incident conditions
- Properly identify traumatic, critical conditions of patients by correctly using standard trauma assessments
- Correctly identify critical medical conditions in patients by properly using standardized medical assessment tools
- Correctly identify the signs, symptoms, pathophysiology, and etiology of body systems disorders
- Correctly identify the proper sequence of treatments and assessments for victims of cardiac arrest
The American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR course is also included in the Cerro Coso Community College EMT program.
Costs For The EMT Program
For California residents, the per unit cost for California Community Colleges is $46. The tuition ($322) + books and fees ($350) brings the approximate cost of the program to $672. The Board Of Governors Tuition Waiver Program is available to students who meet income requirements. That, along with other grants and Federal Financial Assistance, can either greatly reduce or completely eliminate the costs of Community College to students, so PLEASE make use of these programs! Many people don’t take advantage of all the educational opportunities the California Community College System has to offer due to financial constraints, but there are many programs to assist you.
