At West LA College’s Dental Hygiene program, you are enrolled in one of the most respected programs in the US. With a 100% pass rate on the State’s Exam for the past 10 years, students have a head start in their career, simply by enrolling.
Currently offering a 2 year associate program, the program will teach students how to provide care to patients, and help train them in teaching patients how to maintain excellent oral hygiene. Recently, Governor Brown signed the necessary paperwork for West LA College to be able to award a dental hygiene Bachelor’s Degree beginning this year!
So, by 2017, WLA College will be graduating students with a 4 year degree! With about 1200 job openings in CA alone by 2016, those who graduate from one of the 28 accredited Dental Hygiene Schools in California will have excellent prospects in the job field. In this field of work, you will provide services in specialty dental offices, providing a variety of preventive services. Sales, administration, education, and consulting, are among the many additional job fields you can enter into. And, with a median salary of $80,000, including paid sick leave and vacations, hygienists will enjoy an excellent career.
Your application for the dental hygienist program is due on the 15th of March. Applications are accepted once a year. Make sure your application is complete! If it isn’t, the school won’t accept it! The students selected for the dental hygiene program will be notified in writing in June. Make sure EVERYTHING is completed correctly.
Yikes!! $17,900.00 for a two year degree?!?
But, to give it some context, if you took a dental hygienist program at a private California College, it would cost you over SIXTY GRAND!! So, when you consider the average salary for a dental hygienist in California is over $80,000 a year, the dental hygiene program at West Los Angeles College seems like a bargain. It’s a VERY competitive program to get into, with only 25 students accepted annually. Students are picked based on their GPA in science prerequisites, GPA in general prerequisites, hands-on experience in the dental field, and an essay that must be written during a mandatory orientation.
Hundreds of prospective students apply for this program, so the vast majority will not be accepted. There is no waiting list for the Dental Hygienist Program at West Los Angeles College, so those who are not accepted must apply again the next year.
West Los Angeles College is fully accredited as a community college in the state of CA. The school offers opportunities for credit transfers, professional growth, and career education courses and training.
