Information About CSU Bakersfield 2016 Nurse Practitioner Program
The Nursing Department at Cal State University Bakersfield is now offering an MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) degree with an FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) specialization. This CSU Bakersfield program is designed to prepare advanced practice nurses to act as primary healthcare providers. The emphasis in the FNP program is placed on managing health conditions, disease prevention, and health promotion. Upon graduation from the program, students will be prepared to provide evidence-based, high-quality health care to children, infants, and adults from diverse backgrounds across the lifespan.
Graduates of CSU Bakersfield’s Family Nurse Practitioner program are:
- Prepared for the FNP national certification examination
- Qualified to be issued the State of California’s NP furnishing number
- Qualified by the State of California to receive Nurse Practitioner certification
- Prepared to enter doctoral level studies
The Family Nurse Practitioner Program at CSU Bakersfield is a 2 year program, with a full time class schedule. Clinical Hours will be completed through arranged preceptorships with primary care providers in the Bakersfield area.
Requirement For Eligibility:
- Withing the past 3 years, at least 1 year of RN experience
- Current “BLS for Healthcare Providers” American Heart Association CPR card
- California RN license must be unrestricted & active
- Receive a grade “C” or better in Nursing Research, Statistics, & Pathophysiology (these are the 3 prerequisite classes)
- GPA of 3.0 or higher overall in undergrad degree
- Have a status of “Good Standing” at the last University attended
- The baccalaureate program completed must be properly accredited
- Be eligible for Fall 2016 admission as Graduate Student to Cal State Bakersfield
- Complete & submit the application during the application period
