Description of the Didactic Program in Dietetics
Dietetics & Food Administration is an option under Bachelor of Science in Food nutrition & Nutritional sciences.
It is one of the accredited programs in dietetics in California. This didactic program provides learners with a wide range of experiences related to medical nutrition therapy, community nutrition, general nutrition, food service and food management. If you want to obtain the Certificate of Special Study in Dietetics, you will have to take the required coursework. This will enable you to obtain Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) verification statement.
Dietetics and Food Administration (Didactic Program In Dietetics)
The Fresno State DPD program aims to provide high quality education that is evidence based to meet the standards that have been set by ACEND. This is achieved through experimental and didactic learning. The program focuses on preparing students to become successful in the cultural diverse communities of the Central Valley when they get into an accredited graduate program, internship program or professional career.
Program outcomes
- To provide the best, evidence based education to qualified undergraduate students specializing in dietetics to help them get the core knowledge, acquire professional values, integrate scientific principles as well develop behaviors that will make it easy for them to get into the dietetic internship program.
- To make culturally competent undergraduate dietetic students gain employment in dietetics and other related fields. These students are also expected to have a positive impact on the highly cultural diverse community residing in San Joaquin Central Valley.
The program curriculum
Dietetics & food administration option under Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutrition Sciences requires not less than 120 semester units.
12 of the units are upper division electives and only 3 are required to get into the FSN department. Certificate of Special Study needs 12 elective units for you to be able to get into the Didactic Program in Dietetics so that you can qualify for ACEND verification statement. The verification statement is required for one to be eligible for dietetic internship program. Support courses such as psychology, sociology, anatomy, physiology and chemistry are also required.
